“Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;       rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer.”

Romans 12:10-12

“The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”

James 5:16

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST!

Myanmar Disaster

A devastating cyclone has caused widespread death and destruction in Myanmar (Burma). The CMML missionary couple serving in Myanmar  is safe although the school, that is a significant part of their ministry, has been obliterated and their home has sustained damage to the roof. It is likely they will evacuate to Thailand for the short term and make regular trips back to Myanmar as conditions permit.

Water and food are the critical needs. CMML has created a Myanmar Disaster Fund and donations will be forwarded to Myanmar once a secure and reliable channel has been established. Those wishing to contribute should make funds payable to CMML with a note suggesting the funds be used for the Myanmar disaster.

More than 22,000 people have been killed and more than 40,000 are unaccounted. A top US diplomat suggested the death toll could reach or exceed 100,000 people making this the worst disaster in Asia since the 2004 Asia Tsunami.  Fuel to run generators that pump water from wells is in short supply. The risk of disease outbreaks rise as the death toll increases.

Please pray for the leadership of the country to take measures that expedite the relief efforts. Please pray for victims, and for those helping in relief and giving medical aid. Pray for safety. Pray for believers, that they will be able to show God’s love and compassion in this tragedy.

Weekly Prayer Requests - May 7, 2008

DAY 1 - Marjorie Beckwith: ANGOLA

"We had a Saturday Girls' day with about 300 teens and early 20's. It was good to see their enthusiasm and joy as they sang, prayed and listened to the Word on developing the character of a Christian young woman. Pray for the young people of this land in this age of many temptations."

DAY 3 - Paul & Carol Bramsen: SENEGAL

"I traveled to a distant town where I taught lessons from the Tabernacle. Pray for the believers there, who are surrounded by those who are hostile to their faith. Added to that tension is the reality that, day after wearying day, they attempt to eke out a living from a land that is indescribably barren and blistering hot. Even the drinking water is bitter!"

DAY 5 - Dr. Samuel & Elizabeth Simonyi-Gindele

"[On a recent trip to Angola] we had evening ministry meetings around the campfire, gospel meeting before a busy clinic, and then crossed the Zambezi River to travel some miles through the bush, having gospel meetings in eight fish camps along the way."

DAY 8 - Peter & Mary Clift: JAPAN

"After almost 14 years in Iiyama, we're still in the very beginning stages of getting a local church established. In this ingrown, rural setting, everybody is 'looking at the eyes of everybody else' and worrying about how others will react to their interest in Christ."

DAY 14 - Colin & Natalie Burnett: IRELAND

"This year we started a men's Bible study. It has been a real blessing to see all the men come along and also to see the positive effect it is having in the meeting. What has been most encouraging is seeing the increase in participation at the Lord's supper and the prayer meeting."

DAY 23 - Donald & Helen DeWeese: BRAZIL

"The camp for intensive study of the Word was held in Souzas. Its principal objective has been to give more extensive examination of precious truths of Scripture. Since the inception of these camps only a few years ago it has proven to be appreciated and profitable."

DAY 25 - Ronald & Esther Borman: ECUADOR

"Ron has been asked to teach another Park Ranger Ethic's Course, but this time to a Spanish speaking group. A group of about 20 people will be attending, many of which have never heard the Gospel before! Ron will once again be using the Bible as his textbook and already has Spanish Bibles to hand out to each of his students to take home."
